Lillian Rose of Ternova
âYour father wants to see youâ. Those dreaded words are the last thing I want to hear just as I awaken. âTell him I do not want to see himâ.
âIf you do not go to himâ¦â. âHe will send Hiram for me, yes I knowâ, I seethe, blinking back until my eyes settle on Melrose, I shift up and rub my eyes suddenly. âYou have blue eyes?â.
âI have always had blue eyes Maximusâ, she retorts dryly. âI am sure they were greenâ. âShall I send the servants in to dress you?â, she asks. âYesâ, I still confused by her sudden change in appearance as they scurry in. The little flower isnât with them today, I was hoping she would be, I havenât seen her since we laid down together. Instead she has been replaced by a stout male with tufts of red hair. He smiles at my shyly and I scowl in response, as he shifts uncomfortably dropping his eyes to the floor. I find Melrose, whoâs standing at the foot of my door.
âI donât want himâ. âIâm not blind Maximus. Iâve put her on kitchen duty and you would be wise to stay away from her unless you want your father to knowâ. I instantly grimace, the last thing I need is for my father breathing down my neck about having relations with the servants.
I dress quickly and walk to my fatherâs chambers, for once I donât have a shadow lagging behind me. I told Sun I wanted to go and see my father alone and she agreed. She hasnât spoken a word since she woke up, in fact sheâs not spoken since I stitched her up yesterday. It is not that I think she was incapable to do it herself, more that I felt like I owed her. I let her down in that tavern in Erendreal, leaving her to fight all of those men on her own.
I didnât find my father as I made my way into his chambers instead, I saw Malachi, my fathers chief informant waiting for me. Heâs writing something on a piece of parchment, his hand pauses as he dips his feather in ink. âWhere is my father?â. âHe had some duty to attend to outside of the palace, he informed me to tell you that a carriage will be waiting to take you in the next hourâ.
âA carriage to where?â. âTernovaâ. Heat rises in my skin, there is only one reason he would send me there and that would be to make doâs with Lillian Rose. Sheâs the strongest candidate I have for a potential wife and joining our two Kingdoms would be a significant power move for Meridian. âIâm not going. Iâm training the knights todayâ.
âI put Cornelius on it. The King thought having a day outside the palace would be good for youâ. I growl under my breath. âHe should have spoken with me firstâ.
âHe knows you are fond of Lillian Rose, the King Johnsonâs daughter, he thought it would come as a nice surpriseâ.
